

Donna Rhodes Hurley, a longtime resident of Arnold, Maryland died of natural causes on January 31, 2026, at Complete Care at Severna Park, Maryland.
She was born on February 22, 1947, in Rock Hill, South Carolina and grew up in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
She graduated with Honors from Spartanburg High School, attended Berea College, in Kentucky on a work-study program, and obtained a Master's Degree in Library Science from University of Maryland.
She had a prestigious career as a Research Librarian at Nimitz Library at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland from 1978 -2010. She did research for members of Congress in addition to the Naval Academy students. Her expertise and passion for her work were well respected, and the Naval Academy students once sang the song, "Oh Donna" to her in appreciation.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Jay Edwin Hurley, Jr and a stepson, Charles E. Hurley. She is survived by her son, Patrick J. Hurley, daughter Caitlin C. Hurley, stepdaughters Deborah L. Donahew (Al), and Melanie J. Doucet, brother Samuel L. Rhodes, Jr, and sister, Beth Rhodes.
Donna loved gardening, reading books, and the many family vacations sailing on the Chesapeake Bay, and picnicking at Severn on the Pines Beach, as well as scouting and swim team events. She hosted many crab feasts for family and friends.
She was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.
She will be buried at Maryland Veteran's Cemetery, Crownsville, Maryland on March 2, 2026.
