

Florence Virginia Johnson (Smith), age 91, of 1222 Perryman Road, Aberdeen, Maryland, passed away peacefully at Harford Memorial Hospital in Havre de Grace, Maryland on December 18, 2012. She was the daughter of George Washington Smith and Anna Menetta Fitzgerald. She was born in Baltimore, Maryland on March 15, 1921. She married the love of her life, Raymond Joseph Johnson, Sr. on July 2, 1945 at St. Augustine's Catholic Church in Elkridge, Maryland. She attended and graduated from Western High School in Baltimore, Maryland and Bard Avon Secretarial School, also in Baltimore. She served proudly in the Women's Auxiliary Army Corps, later the Women's Army Corps (WAC), during World War II. She took her basic training at Ft. Ogelthorpe, Georgia. She marched with her unit in the Victory Parade in New York following the end of World War II. Later in life, after raising two children, she worked as a secretary at Human Engineering Lab, and Kirk Army Hospital, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Aberdeen, Maryland.
She was preceeded in death by her mother and father, and her beloved husband, Raymond Joseph Johnson, Sr. in 1996. She is survived by two sons, William Raymond Johnson (Jill Rigelman), of Plymouth, Minnesota and Raymond Joseph Johnson, Jr. (Marylee Siano) of May's Landing, New Jersey. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Michael Johnson, of Havre de Grace, Maryland; Bradley Johnson and Zachariah Johnson, both of Alabama; Kimberly Johnson; Emily Johnson, both of May's Landing, New Jersey; Amy Johnson, of Fort Deposit, Maryland; and two great-grandchildren.
Burial will be at Meadowridge Memorial Park with a graveside service for immediate family only. Donations, in lieu of gifts or flowers, may be made to the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals).
