Frederick (Bud) Plato Reed, Jr., born September 27, 1925 to Frederick P. Reed Sr. and Isabelle Winstead-Scott of Baltimore, MD died peacefully on March 26, 2021 with his family by his side. He was the last surviving sibling of 6, Blanch, Mary, Jean, Albert, and Dorothy.
After leaving school he entered the workforce making deliveries for a bakery, then worked at a chrome plating company before enlisting in the Navy at the age of 17. He became a sheet metal/pipefitter/welder while serving on a ship during World War II. When Bud left the Navy he joined Plumbers Local 48 as an apprentice working for a mechanical contractor. Here he gained the experience and knowledge to start a business with brother Al in 1966, which he continued successfully for 35 years. Reed and Reed, INC was Buds’ lifeline, pride and joy before retiring to the shore house in Pasadena to enjoy the rest of his years with family and friends.
In 1950 Bud married Oma Mae Carr of Laurel, a union lasting 43 years until her passing in 1995. Bud is survived by sons Frederick P. Reed III and wife Patricia (McLanigan), John B. Reed Sr. and wife Karen (Holden), and Jeffrey W. Reed. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Bud was a Shriner in the Mason’s as well as being part of the Blue Lodge and the Scottish Rite. He was an active member of the Camel Wheels.
Family and friends are invited to gather at Gary L. Kaufman Funeral Home at Meadowridge Memorial Park, Inc. 7250 Washington Blvd., Elkridge, MD 21075 (Exit 6 South off Route 100) on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 from 3:00 to 7:00pm where a Celebration of Life service will also be held, on Thursday, April 1, 2021 at 11:00am. Interment Meadowridge Memorial Park.
