

Gordon Edwin Schmier, 77 of Crownsville, MD passed away peacefully on December 15, 2015. Gordon was an Electrical Engineer who earned his B.S. Degree from Johns Hopkins University in 1974. He worked for Westinghouse, which later became Northrop Grumman, for 40 years before retiring in 1996.
Gordon was an incredible athlete in his youth, and later coached little league baseball. He was also an avid bowler. After retiring, Gordon loved gardening and golfing. He was a devoted husband, father and member of the South Shore Baptist Church where he served as usher and leader of the Men’s Ministry Program. He also volunteered to lead youth groups in Vacation Bible School.
Gordon is survived by his wife, Virginia (Ginny) Schmier; daughter, Diana Pirkle and husband, Darrin of Gordonville, PA; his son Robert (Bob) Schmier and wife, Robyn of Millersville, MD; his brother, Ronald (Ron) Schmier and wife, Rebecca (Becky) of Greensboro, MD; four grandchildren, Jonathan Pirkle and wife, Chelsea; Austin, Summer and Andrew Schmier; and one great grandson, Carter Pirkle. He was preceded in death by his son David Schmier and parents, Gordon and Sarah Schmier.
Visitation will be held at the Gary L. Kaufman Funeral Home at Meadowridge Memorial Park in Elkridge, MD on Monday, December 21, 2015 from 3:00 – 5:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 pm. A funeral service will be held at Gary L. Kaufman Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at 11:00am and Interment to follow at Meadowridge Memorial Park in Elkridge, MD. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the South Shore Baptist Church (Crownsville, MD) in honor of his memory.
