Joan Evelyn Barnes, age 83, of Parkville, Maryland passed away on Thursday, December 2, 2021. Joan was born January 24, 1938 to parents Francis Jerome, Sr. and Evelyn Victoria Bees; beloved mother of Judith Ann Carey and her husband Thomas, Michael Joseph Barnes and his wife Charlotte, and Donna Marie Marshalek and her husband James; dear sister of James Bees and the late Francis Jerome Bees, Jr; cherished grandmother of Thomas Joseph Carey and his wife Kaci, David James Carey, Grace Judith Carey, Michael Adam Barnes, Adriana Evelyn Barnes, Christina Evelyn Marshalek and Victoria Marie Marshalek; loving aunt of Amy MacLarion and Mindy Burgos.
Joan attended St. Edward School and graduated on June 8, 1952 and went on to the Catholic High School and graduated from there on June 3, 1956. Upon graduation from high school, Joan went to work for the Veteran's Administration and then shared her talents at the House in the Pines Nursing Home. Joan then went to work at St. Joseph Hospital in Towson and then back to where she started her career, with the Veteran's Administration, along with some part-time work at Greater Baltimore Medical Center (GBMC).
Family and friends are invited to gather at Gary L. Kaufman Funeral Home 7250 Washington Blvd., Elkridge, Maryland 21075 (Exit 6 South off Route 100) on Wednesday, December 8, 2021 from 3:00 - 5:00pm and 7:00 - 9:00pm with a Rosary Service at 3:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Benedict Church, 2612 Wilkens Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21223 on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at 10:00am. Interment Meadowridge Memorial Park.
