John Michael Kundrat, of Ellicott City, Maryland, passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, surrounded by love. A beloved husband, devoted father, and cherished friend, John was known for his kind heart, generous spirit, and deep appreciation for life’s simple joys. He left a lasting mark on all who knew him.
Born on October 11, 1962, in Amherst, Ohio to the late George and Anne Kundrat, John lived a life rooted in love, integrity, and quiet strength. He dedicated more than 40 years to the Department of Defense, most recently serving as Technical Director with the Cryptologic Assessment and Performance Group. Throughout his career, he was deeply respected and valued by his colleagues for his steady leadership, humility, and unwavering commitment to his work.
John found joy in the outdoors—biking, hiking, and especially exploring the Blue Ridge Mountains with his family. It was on a bike ride that he met the love of his life, Lisa. Together they shared a beautiful partnership, filled with music, laughter, and frequent visits to their favorite Virginia wineries.
A passionate music lover, John brought his home to life with the sound of his favorite songs and loved attending concerts and sharing albums with friends. His warmth and sense of humor made him a friend to many, and his unwavering support made him the cornerstone of his family.
He had a gift for fixing anything, big or small. As an engineer, he approached every challenge with patience, precision, and an unwavering belief that nothing was impossible. Whether it was a broken appliance, a bike in need of tuning, or a complex problem no one else could solve, John was the one everyone turned to. He didn’t just fix things—he made them better.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Lisa; his two children, Christina Kundrat and Nicholas Kundrat; as well his sister, Joanne Kundrat and his two nieces Gabby and Gina.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered for the love he gave, the life he lived, and the memories he helped create.
