

On Monday, November 23, 2015 at 91 years of age. He was born on September 15, 1924 in Baltimore, MD, son to Julius and Josephine Tauber, being the youngest and last survivor of his siblings, brother John and sister Josephine. He grew up in Halethorpe and Graduated from Mount Saint Joe High School in 1942. He served in the Army in World War II with the 78th Lightning Division 311th Regiment. During his time spent in the military he was involved in one hundred and thirty days of continuous combat at the Hurtgen Forest, the Siegfried Line, and the Battle of the Bulge. Their Regiment was the first across the Rhine River at the town of Remagen, the 311th captured over 17,000 prisoners and 354 Towns and were awarded two Presidential Unit Citations. After the war, Junior took over his aunt and uncles garage and gas station that was started about 1930 known back then as Tauber’s Amoco. In the late 1940’s, he became involved in Nascar Racing and raced until 1954 with his biggest win in the Spring Championship at Westport Stadium in 1953.The gas station and towing service continued on with his wife, Virginia Tauber, doing the book work and even pumping gas. In the 1970’s, their son, Michael Tauber, became involved in the business and by 1985, the gas was phased out and it became a Towing Company known as Tauber’s Service, Inc., still operating today. Junior semi-retired at the age of 65, but continued driving a tow truck until 85 years of age and was still at the shop almost every day until a couple of months ago. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Smith Tauber, married 66 years; son, Michael J. Tauber and his wife Sharon, granddaughter Ashley Pevo and husband Drew, granddaughter Kaitlyn Tauber, a step-grandson Michael Lichtenberg and his wife Melanie, and 3 great-grandchildren; Ava, Autumn and Lacey. Julius Tauber was a man that was loved by his family and the Linthicum community. He will be greatly missed by all. May he rest in peace.
