Grandmom, 

I do not even know exactly what to say here, but in the past couple of weeks it has been getting more and more difficult for me to cope with the fact that you are gone. I miss you immensely and I wish I had taken more opportunities to spend time with you and tell you exactly what I was thinking before you left. There are so many things that were left unsaid and so many things that I wanted to ask you. I am glad that I got the opportunity to say good-bye and spend a lot of time with you in your last bit of time here. I am glad I got to apologize to you for not taking more time out for you when you were well.

I am glad that I had you as a grandmother, even though some of your comments could be off the wall at times; I miss all of the embarrassing comments you would make. I miss when we used to play the piano together, you were the reason I started playing and you gave me a ton of sheet music and tips on playing; I loved coming to your house and playing the piano for you and with you. You always pushed me to sing and were very supportive of everything I did. I miss all of the congratulatory phone calls, voicemails, and hugs that I received from you. I still have most of the voicemails from you, like when you called and left me a five minute voicemail about my laundry, or you wishing me luck and safe travel while I was on my way to Nashville. 

You would go to pretty much all of my importanr events, my fifth grade graduation, my chorus concerts, my baptism, my Missionettes ceremony - which you helped me pick out my dress for, my Sweet 16, and my wedding. I still have every card from all of these events, birthdays, and more. I am glad that I have the advice that you gave me in each of these still and they're in your handwriting. 

You were an amazing woman who cared more about her family than anything else in the world. I miss when you used to write to me, we were great pen-pals and I kept every single letter; I even read them to you the week after your birthday. In one of my birthday cards you wrote: From tadpole to butterfly, what a metamorphosis you have made! Well, you have made yours now too. From being here on earth to being with Jesus, what a metamorphosis you have made!

Mrs.Kathy you are missed so much every day. You were a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. I still remember the first time I met you and Mr.Tom. David invited me over for his bday and I will never forget your beautiful smile and that great laugh of yours. My favorite memory from mine and Davids wedding was when David got to dance with you and when you and Tom had your special dance. I could always tell how much you and Tom loved each other. I hope that me and David will always share that same love. Aubrey was very greatful to have been apart of your life. She looks just like you and I know we will always see a glimpse of you in her. I'm so glad you were able to be there for her birth and her first birthday. You were always there for us when we needed advice,a shoulder to cry on, or just someone to talk to. You had an answer or solution for everything. We all know David was your favorite son. I know your so proud of the man he's become. We've shared lots of memories and I'm so blessed to have be apart of your family. I love you and we know you love us too. Please continue to live on in our memory and watch over us. For now I know you are our guardian angel and I will see you again some day.

 My name is Mike Sturm.  I lived across the street from Kathy and her family.  When I moved in I had such a warm welcome from Kathy and her family.  I received a lengthy letter from Kathy welcoming me to the neighborhood.  The contents of what she authored were inclusive, but not limited to information about her and her family and the neighborhood.  Kathy and her family also responded to my house and welcomed me.  I knew that my relationship with the Schatz family would be more than just being neighbors and that was proven true, as I consider them more like family than friends.  Kathy was the type of person who was fun to be around and was always thinking of others.  Kathy noticed that I tended to be gardening a lot.  Recognizing that, she would cross the street and provide me with gardening magazines and provide verbal gardening lessons.  I quickly learned that she also enjoyed the hobby.  I would have questions for her and Tom about gardening or personal matters and they were there for me no matter what.  There are some country songs that talk about what true friends are and there is no doubt that the songs were authored when someone was thinking about friends such as the Schatz's.  When you continue on the journey of life, keep with you the good examples of kindness, love, dignity and respect that people share with you and keep them close to your heart.  There is a saying, that you are only as good as the people you choose as your friends in life.  Just by being the person you are, through conversation or example can influence another person's perspective on life and that person who learned something from another can continue the trend without knowing.  I thank God for the many blessings that he brought into my life through knowing Kathy, Tom, David and Kim.  I love each of you and your families and I will continue to keep your family in my heart and prayers.
