There are so many memories my family could share about Grandad. We will miss the corny jokes, which he told up until the very last moment, the music, and the hundreds of "Grandadisms" we will tell for a very long time. Our children were blessed to have their great-grandfather in their lives for as long as they did - what a gift most people do not have. Every time I place a book on the book shelf he built or any of the other beautiful things he has built, I will remember the wonderful things he shared with me and all of the years we spent together. He lead a full life filled with family, love and music. We take great comfort in knowing that he shared his gifts with others as well and that he is finally with the one true love of his life, my grandmother. The family is grateful for all of the memories shared and take comfort in knowing that he touched others lives like he touched ours.

Joan and I both cherish the our daily conversations with my brother as well as playing music and being on the radio with him. Playing baseball, doing carpentry work with him and dad, playing horse shoes and many other rich memories! Mel will be greatly missed. We send our love and çondolences to all the family and we wish we could be with you during this time. See you on the other side brother!

Dear Uncle Mel,
I have so many good memories of you and listening to your wonderful music. The one memory that really sticks out in my mind was when you and Pappy were building houses in my neighborhood. I would go over where you were building and eat lunch with you. Such a special time!

Recently, when we have visited you in Maryland, you always played your beautiful guitar music for us! We also enjoyed talking with you by phone every time we were at my Mom and Dad's (George and Joan Gardner) house. You are so special to all of us! We love you deeply!

Uncle Mel. ❤️ You always made me smile and I loved your corny jokes from the time I was a small child. Your music was such an important part of your life that I can’t remember one without the other. Loved listening to you with Mom and Uncle George and hearing Dad tell stories about “Millie and The Potomac Valley Boys.” You had a full and wonderful life and you will be missed. Please give a big hug to Aunt Ebby, Mom, Dad and all the relatives who have gone before. The music in Heaven just got a little sweeter.

Thank you Mr. Mel for all the music and lessons you shared, for our times together laughing, and for your friendship. ‘“Gone Home” will now be an even sadder song. You will be missed. Thoughts and prayers are with your family at this sad time. Love and thanks, Sandi
