

Paul Goebel, born on October 9, 1962, beloved husband, dedicated father, son, brother, and friend, bravely ended his fight with lung cancer on November 05, 2013 at the University of Washington Hospital in Seattle. Metastasis to his brain came swiftly and fiercely.Paul is survived by his wife, Karen and three daughters, Anastasia, Bernadette and Christiana as well as his father, Dr. Carl Goebel, his brothers Carl Jeffrey Goebel and Jerry Goebel and two sisters, Therese Ashland (Kevin) and Tricia Jelcick (Aaron). Paul also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Patricia.In addition to being an avid endurance sports athlete, Paul was an involved member of his church and his community. He shared a physical therapy practice in Ellensburg and Yakima. Paul was loved by those he worked with as well as the patients he served. His last race was the Rock n'Roll Seattle half marathon this Summer, fundraising to fight cancer. Paul ran in a t-shirt which read, "Running with one lung."Paul was a non-smoker who believed in getting the most out of life everyday. He volunteered in the community taking his family to share in services at a local nursing home and leading children's sermons at a local church. He took his role as dad very seriously, his girls were his pride and joy and his motivation for putting an end to this disease. His investment of time with his family is a legacy that will have a lasting impact for future generations.His favorite moments were times spent with his family and running, biking, skiing, or kayaking in the mountains of Washington State.Instead of flowers, the family would like donations to go to Seattle Cancer Care Alliance where a fund is established in his memory specifically for lung cancer research through Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Donations may also be directed to Care Net Ellensburg. An Education Fund has been set up for Paul's daughters and contributions may be made out to Karen Goebel/Education, Solarity Credit Union, 900 S Ruby St. Ellensburg, WA 98926A Memorial service will be held at Mercer Creek Church, 1407 N. B street at 1:00pm on Tuesday, November 12. A life celebration will take place following the service at The Big House Lodge, Cle Elum.
