It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our dearly loved and cherished Husband, Father, Grandfather, Son, Brother, Uncle, Cousin, and Friend, Our Beloved David Ross Averack. David passed away peacefully on January 3, 2025 surrounded by his loving family, in Tampa, Florida.
David was born on December 8, 1955 in Brooklyn, New York. He grew up in a very close-knit, loving, and nurturing family. He was the second child to Howard and Paula Averack and siblings Andrea Berkowitz (David) and Robert, who he loved and cared for dearly. David was a very happy, funny, bright, and athletic child. He always spoke about his fond memories of his time in the Marlboro Houses, the food from L&B Spumoni Gardens, and playing basketball for the JCC and St. Patrick’s with his best friend Billy Frisher, who he considered to be his brother as well. The stories were endless.
Through David’s teenage years he discovered his lifelong love of music. He enjoyed listening to so many different bands of his time. The Beatles, The Who, Jethro Tull, Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young, Chicago and Mountain just to name a few.
In David’s later teenage years, 17 to be exact, with the Verrazano Narrows Bridge being built, connecting Brooklyn to Staten Island, he was able to meet the love of his life, Patricia Mulligan. David and Patti shared 47 years of a beautiful, loving and happy marriage. They shared a full life, having four children and twelve grandchildren. It was quite the adventure. Over the years our family took joy in raising and loving all our family pups. Family was extremely important to them. Many wonderful memories were made over the years and beautiful bonds were created.
David loved cooking, Chinese food, being involved in his children’s studies and sports, going to professional sporting events with friends and family, going to concerts, amusement parks, Broadway shows, apple and pumpkin picking, and for long drives just to see the leaves changing in the Fall or to have dinner in Pennsylvania. David enjoyed going on yearly family vacations and celebrating holidays with family and friends. David always enjoyed grilling at his yearly backyard Fourth of July Celebrations which everyone looked forward to. Christmas morning was always a lot of fun for David seeing the excitement on his children’s faces, which was followed up with lots of laughs and the making of many memories at Christmas dinner with all the Mulligan families.
David was overwhelmingly proud of his family and always hoped to be as good of a husband and father as his own father was, and he truly accomplished that goal.
David lived in Brooklyn, New York until 1978 when he moved to Staten Island. He then moved to Florida in 2022.
David retired from the New York City Department of Sanitation as a Superintendent in April 2011 after over 30 years of service. There he met many wonderful friends who helped make the time on the job enjoyable and pass by rather quickly.
At the center of David’s world were his beloved wife, Patricia, their four children: Jennifer Pisani (David), Christine (Richard Malone), David (Nicole), Tricia Averack-Luna (Victor) and their twelve grandchildren.
David was a truly wonderful husband, father, son, son-in-law, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend. He will be incredibly missed. We do however find solace knowing that he is now at peace with God and in the loving arms of his parents in Heaven.
We will love and miss you always and forever with all our hearts and souls until we meet again.
A private “Celebration of David’s Life” will take place at a later date.
