Dillie Sue Howell

Born September 29, 1934, in Telford Tennessee to Wiley & Ira Higgins, she grew up in Stanley Valley and graduated from Surgoinsville High School, later earning a diploma from the Holston Valley Community Hospital School of Nursing. Where she continued her career until moving to New York to start her family.

Sue moved to Florida in 1974 with her four children and dedicated her life to raising and caring for her son, Harvey Howell, Jr. She worked in retail at Asman’s Department Store and H. Butler Footwear until she retired in 1996. She was a loyal supporter of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Tampa Bay Rays.

She is preceded in death by her parents Wiley and Ira, 12 siblings; Eva Gillenwater, Zora Blankenship, Glynn Higgins, Opal Winegar, Duffie Buckner, Richard Higgins, Arthur Higgins, Marie Larkins, Myrtle Huckaby, Buddy Higgins, Ethel Greer, and Billie Frank Higgins; Her son Harvey Howell Jr and daughter Doris Ann “Dee” Howell.

She is survived by her daughters Janice Sue Haas (Doug) and Sharon Lee McClellan (Jimbo), grandchildren: Jessica and Paul Haas, Danielle Roman Probus (John) and John Campbell Roman, Tony, Dylan (D.J.) and Donnie McClellan and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation and service for Sue will be held Saturday, May 30, 2026 from 9:30 am to 11:30 am at Groover Funeral Home, 1400 36th Ave East, Ellenton, FL 34222. A burial will occur at Mansion Memorial Park at 1:00pm on Saturday, 1400 36th Ave East, Ellenton, Florida 34222.
