James Whitfield Layne, Jr., was born November 9, 1935 in Cambridge, Massachusetts to the parentage of James Whitfield and Elvira Layne. He was a graduate of Cambridge High and Latin and Boston State University.
While serving in the Air Force, Jim met Verlie Paige and they were married in 1957 on his birthday. To that union four children were born. Two sons, James III and Jeffrey and two daughters Gloria and Judith.
Jim and his family loved camping and fishing. He also enjoyed playing board games and doing the most complex jigsaw puzzles he could find. After retirement, Jim and Verlie enjoyed more than 30 cruises through the Caribbean, Mediterranean, and South America.
He was preceded in death by his parents James and Elvira Layne, his daughter Gloria Williams and his sister, Gloria Cox.
Those who remain and cherish his memory are: His wife Verlie, his three children, James W. Layne III(Daisy), Jeffrey D. Layne(Sammie), and Judith A. Layne, son-in-law Bill Williams, 12 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
