

Jon Matthew Alspaugh of Lakewood Ranch, Florida—beloved husband, father, son, brother, and uncle—passed from this life into the next at the age of 57, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous fight against cancer. He was born on April 24, 1969 in Columbus, Ohio.
Jon lived his boyhood in Sylvania, Ohio with his parents and six older siblings. Always athletic, Jon was State of Ohio AAU Wrestling Champion at eight years old. He went on to be be a standout wrestler at Sylvania Northview High School, winning almost all of his matches and going to the state tournament twice. Jon also excelled as a middle linebacker on the football team. He went on to wrestle for The Ohio State University as a walk-on.
He moved to Southwest Florida with his parents when he was twenty years old. There, he met and fell in love with the beautiful and energetic Speedy (Helen) Gonzalez. Always an entrepreneur, he opened Big Jon’s Pawn Shop. He and his wife, Speedy, began a successful gym for aspiring young gymnasts. Jon went on to install high-end home theatre systems all over Southern Florida. He and Speedy then began Speedy Fuel Supply.
Jon was a devoted father to both his daughters, Hunter and Coki, always involved in their upbringing and in their lives as adults. His love for them—and theirs for him—knows no bounds.
Jon is preceded in death by both of his fathers, Jack Alspaugh and Andrew Sares. He is survived by his wife, Speedy Alspaugh and daughters Hunter and Coki Alspaugh; by his mother, Luanna Sares; brother Joe (Cathy) Alspaugh, sister Jan (John) Watkins; sister Tonia (Terry) Irmen; brother Matt (Flo) Sares; brother Mark (Amy) Sares; and brother Mike (Mary) Sares, as well as by many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Groover Funeral Home at Mansion Memorial Park, 1400 36th Ave East, Ellenton, FL 34222, US, on May 9, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
