Born on June 13, 1940 in Bartow, Florida to Mildred and CW Martin, Jr., Lucretia graduated from Summerlin Institute in Bartow, FL in 1958. It was in high school where Lucretia met the love of her life, Jim Bond who she married in 1959. Lucretia and Jim made a home in Bartow where she was proudly employed at Florida National Bank for 20 years and raised two daughters.
In 1978, the family moved to Manatee County where Lucretia enjoyed being a realtor in Bradenton, Florida for a few years but found her life's passion in the gardening arena when she and Jim opened Bond's Nursery in Palmetto, Florida where they remained until retirement. Lucretia always enjoyed working in her yard, had beautiful flower beds, and could most often be found outside hunting and fishing with Jim and friends. Lucretia was known for growing beautiful rose bushes wherever she lived, and no one could deny her special gift for making delicious spaghetti sauce for family and friends.
In the last four years of Lucretia's life, she lived in Greer, South Carolina with her daughter, Lindy, and son-in-law Chuck Landers, where she was able to enjoy four generations of family. Seeing great grandchildren was one of her greatest joys late in life. Those were her best days and she and the grandchildren alike would light up in each other's presence.
Left to cherish Lucretia's memory is a daughter Lindy Bond Landers (Chuck), grandsons Derek Landers (Mary Katherine Moore), James Harrell (Michaela), Blake Harrell (Kayla), and Lane Harrell; granddaughters Dana Landers Fuller (Joseph) and Lauren Landers Macdonald (Phillip). Also left to cherish the memory of Lucretia are 8 great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Lucretia was predeceased by the love of her life and husband of 66 years, James S. Bond, daughter and son-in law, Susan and Bruce Harrell, brother Reggie Martin, and sister Clara Martin Chauncey.
Services for Lucretia are planned in Ellenton, Florida at Groover Funeral Home at Mansion Memorial Park at 1400 36th Ave E, Ellenton, FL 34222 on Friday, May 22, 2026, with a visitation beginning at 11am, followed by a funeral service at noon. Lucretia will be laid to rest following the funeral service at Mansion Memorial Park beside Jim.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like to acknowledge the compassionate and loving care Lucretia received by Agape Hospice which was nothing short of amazing and requests memorials be made to The Carnation Foundation which provides financial support and resources to hospice and palliative care patients and their families as well as employees working in hospice and palliative care.
