Monteen Council Hayman Monteen Council Hayman, 103, a life-long resident of Manatee County went home to be with her Lord and Savior on July 28th, 2018. Monteen was born on January 2nd, 1915 in Palmetto, FL to the late Charles and Verter Council. Two brothers, J. Paul Council and Walter W. Council and granddaughter Amy Hayman also preceded her in death. Monteen graduated from Palmetto High School in 1933 during the Great Depression. She attended Florida State College for Women in Tallahassee and took classes at the University of Florida along with extension classes locally. Monteen began her teaching career in a one room school house on Snead Island. She went on to teach at Palm View Elementary School for many years and later as a substitute teacher. In later years, she worked in the Tax Assessors Office, Tax Collectors office and the office of Clerk of Court until retirement. She continued her love for teaching as Sunday School teacher at Palmetto First Baptist Church leading the women's "Love Class" for many years. She served as a den mother for Boy Scouts, school home room mother, and was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Monteen married her lifelong sweetheart, Hollis B. Hayman whom she grew up with at Gillette Baptist Church where their fathers served as deacons. Hollis and Monteen were married for 68 years until his death in May 2006. She is survived by her son, Council "Corky" Hayman and wife, Gail of Seminole, FL, daughter, Beverly Breeze of Palmetto, FL, brothers, Dr. Charles T. Council of Palmetto, FL and Dr. M. Earl Council and wife, Nadine of Laurens, SC, four grandchildren, Scott Hayman of Largo, FL, Rebecca Breeze Jones and husband, Chris of Elko, GA, Beth Breeze Cantrell and husband, Steve of Franklin, GA, and Allison Breeze Grayson and husband, Josh of Loganville, GA, 10 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews and faithful caregivers from Brookdale Assisted Living Home. Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 1,, 2018 at 10:00 am with Funeral Services to follow at 11:00 am at Palmetto First Baptist Church. Graveside will follow at Gillette Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Shriner's Hospital Greenville, SC or Palmetto First Baptist Missions Fund.
