Ruby L. Johnson, 96, of Palmetto passed away peacefully at home with her family on May 19, 2015. She was greeted at the gates of heaven by her husband Odis, who predeceased her almost 23 years ago. Ruby worked with the Manatee County School Board for over 30 years, retiring in 1985, as a lunch room manager. She then went to work in the snack bar and bakery for Wal-Mart and retired again a second time after working over 25 years. Ruby was a member of the First Baptist Church in Palmetto for over 60 years. Survivors include a daughter, Carole (Bert) Dillahay of Palmetto, a son, Larry (Ann) Johnson of Buford, Georgia; 6 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren; sisters, Ruth McDonald, Lola Cannon, and a sister in law Georgia McDonald; with numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Services will be held on Saturday May 30, at Groover Funeral Home at Mansion Memorial Park, 1400 36th Street East, Ellenton. Visitation will be at 10 am with a service to follow at 11 am. Burial will be at Palmetto Cemetery.
