

of Rancho Santa Fe passed away on August 21, 2020 at age 98. Marykay was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1922. After graduating from St. Mary of the Woods College she worked as an American Airlines stewardess in 1944-1947. She flew flights all over the US during WWII and eventually met her first husband, Navy pilot Lt. JG Ray Pflum during a stop over in Texas. Marykay and Ray Pflum married in 1947 and had seven children: Maureen Pflum of Rancho Santa Fe, Barry Pflum (Michele) of Linwood, NJ, Timothy Pflum of Seward, AK, Molly Pflum (deceased), Eenee Pflum Ferrano (Mark) of Annapolis, MD, Martin Pflum (Patty) of Blue River, OR, and Neal Pflum (Cindy Collins) of Del Mar, CA; eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
The Pflum family lived 33 years in Winnetka, Illinois. Ray Pflum passed away in 1971. In 1978 Marykay married Ray Owen Burch in Wilmette, Illinois. Marykay and Ray Burch moved to Rancho Santa Fe in 1983. Ray Burch passed away in 2006. Marykay was active with the San Diego Chapter of the American Airlines Kiwi Club (an organization of past flight attendants) and held numerous leadership positions over the years. Marykay was passionate about genealogy research. She belonged to: The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, The Jamestowne Society, Society of Colonial Dames XVII Century, and also the Magna Carta Society. Marykay loved her work with the DeAnza Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and served as Regent in 2004. Throughout 1990-2010, Marykay was also involved with and held leadership positions with the RSF Republican Women Federation. Ray and Marykay were one of the first families and benefactors for the Catholic Church of the Nativity as it was being built in 1989. Marykay will be interred in the Columbarium of the Church of the Nativity alongside Ray Burch.
