Fitzroy Emanuel Benjamin, known affectionately as Roy, Laugh, or Benji, passed away on May 11, 2024 after a long battle with cancer. Fitzroy was born on September 11, 1946, in Kingston, Jamaica to Veta Byfield and Auston Benjamin. His family settled in Cleveland, Ohio and later moved to Florida, which he considered his hometown.
Fitzroy's early years were shared with his siblings, Eric (deceased), Ernest, Webster, Sharlene, Pam and Yvonne, creating a fulfilling life of memories filled with laughter and companionship.
Fitzroy a graduate of St. Aloysius all boys High School in Kingston Jamaica. After high school he pursued a career in Dentistry. Fitzroy also did service in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba where he worked for the US Embassy Marine Corp. After he moved to the US, he then worked at the Fisher Auto Body which later merged with Ford.
In 1968, Fitzroy married Minerva (Jean) Burgher, in a beautiful ceremony at their hometown church in Jamaica. Together, they raised three children: Keno Benjamin Sr., Claus (Rockie) Benjamin, Jacqueline (Jackie) Benjamin. Fitzroy was a loving and devoted father.
Fitzroy's life was rich with hobbies that reflected his love for cars, music, sports, and traveling. He was a participant on the Jamaican Crickett and Dominoes team. He faithfully loved to watch basketball, football and soccer, travelling to various places and was a DJ in the comfort of his basement studio. His passion was dentistry where he would always take care of his teeth and loved to laugh.
Predeceased by his parents, his brother Eric, and nephew Darius. Fitzroy's legacy is carried forward by his loving ex-wife Minerva (Jean), his children Claus (Rockie), Jacqueline (Jackie), and Keno Sr. and his eight adoring grandchildren: Nina, Aaron, Denzel, Robert Jr., Keno Jr. Kerrion, Karmeron, and Zy'ere along with three great grandchildren. His memory will also be cherished by his family members and countless friends: brother Ernest and wife Patricia (Aunt Bunty), brother Webster, Sister Sharlene and her significant other Dean, Aunt Patsy (deceased spouse Eric), sister Yvonne and Pam along with many nieces and nephews who loved him. They will be carrying his spirit of love and life forever.
Even after his cancer diagnosis, Fitzroy faced the illness head-on, never losing hope or his positive spirit. Fitzroy's bravery was an inspiration to all who knew him, and his unwavering commitment to serving others.
