Born on January 18, 1923, Irene was deeply rooted in her Italian heritage and community. For 95 years, she called South Park home, where she devoted herself to family and neighbors alike. While raising her daughters, she worked as a lunch lady in the South Park School District, always greeting students with a warm smile and a kind heart. Her family, the Bastianinis, built and operated the beloved Piney Fork Swimming Pool in Library, PA, where she also worked.
In 2018, Irene relocated to Rotonda West, Florida, where she enjoyed her later years with her daughter and son-in-law.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Frank Yelenchic, and her siblings: Pam (William) Skerbetz, Mary (Ralph) Kappy, Leno (Cecelia) Bastianini, Robert (Delores) Bastianini, and Shirley (Herman) Cecelia.
Irene is survived by her loving daughters, Terry (Steve) Bowes and Leslie (Jeff) Dahl; her cherished grandchildren, Stephanie (Terry) Lacey and Mark Feineigle; and her adored great-granddaughter, London Lacey. She was eagerly awaiting the arrival of her great-grandson, due in June 2025.
She also leaves behind many dear nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom she loved deeply.
Irene took great pride in her Italian family roots and found her greatest joy in spending time with loved ones. Her warmth, strength, and sense of humor touched everyone who knew her.
On May 2nd, 2025, it is believed that Irene chose to reunite with her beloved Frank to celebrate what would have been their 81st wedding anniversary on May 3rd.
A private burial will be held at Jefferson Memorial Cemetery in Pleasant Hills Park.
She will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
