Paul was born in New Bedford, MA to Felix and Undeen Brown on February 1,1936. He died Sunday, May 30, 2021 at Tidewell Hospice in Venice, FL. Leaving Durfee High School before graduation, Paul joined the U.S. Air Force and proudly served during the Korean Conflict.
Upon returning to New Bedford from military service, he completed his high school education, alongside much younger students. Paul eventually earned his BA degree in history and education at Southeastern Massachusetts University. For years he worked in sales and marketing, especially in the paperboard industry. His work involved travel throughout New England, New York, and New Jersey. Before retiring, he owned and operated Commercial Screenprint in Cranston, RI.
Paul is survived by his wife June with whom he lived in Englewood, Fl. He also leaves his two sons, Paul Michael of Orange City, Fl and Christopher Michael of Clermont, FL, as well as June’s son Andrew G. Nault and wife Carena of Lincoln, RI, daughter Amanda J. Craven and her husband Timothy of Millville, MA. Paul and June proudly share five grand-children: they are Lauren Brown, Myranda Nault, Derrick Nault, Zachary Craven and Benjamin Craven. Each has always given the couple great joy. Paul and June would have celebrated 36 years of marriage on June 1, 2021.
Known for his story-telling, Paul often referred to a happy childhood in New Bedford, MA where he swam, fished, hunted, rode motorcycles and learned to fly radio controlled airplanes. The interest in model planes never ended. He built, repaired, flew, and taught beginning fliers, until illness intervened this year.
In their 50’s Paul and June learned to sail. Their 30 ft Catalina was a familiar sight on Narragansett Bay in Rhode Island. Its name was APPLJAC. The word was created, using the first letter of Paul and June and each of their 5 grandchildren. On APPLJAC’s stern was the name along with a sketch of a large red apple, missing a bite.
Paul’s family will honor his memory in two states. First, a Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on June 22nd at Lakeside Lutheran Church in Venice, FL. A few weeks later Paul will be buried July 12th at 11:00 a.m.
in St. Mary’s Cemetery, New Bedford, MA. Details of these events will be available on the Website of Lemon Bay Funeral Home…lemonbayfh.com.
Those who knew Paul were aware that he suffered from IPF, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, an incurable lung disease, causing patients’ lungs to become thick, stiff and increasingly dependent on supplemental oxygen. No cure other than lung transplant is available at this time.
