Alvaro will be remembered as a loving, caring, kind hearted and willing to do anything for anybody. Alvaro was wheelchair bound after an automobile accident. He took himself to the Salvation Army to work there. Everyone knew him as the guy who wheeled himself around Escondido backwards. He loved doing his gardening at home and at the Salvation Army. Alvaro was never to busy to not Visit to anyone he met.
He is survived by his father, Francisco Charles of Escondido, California; his mother, Eva Charles of Escondido, California; his son, Anthony Porter of Escondido, California; and his sisters, Lisa Charles of Escondido, California, Nora Messersmith (John) of Escondido, California, and Laura Alvarado (Hector) of Escondido, California.
Visitation will take place at McLeod Mortuary, 1919 East Valley Pkwy, Escondido, CA 92027, US, on April 23, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A Funeral Service will be held at McLeod Mortuary, 1919 East Valley Pkwy, Escondido, CA 92027, US, on April 24, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. A Committal Service will be held at Oak Hill Memorial Park, 2640 Glenridge Rd, Escondido, CA 92027, US, on April 24, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm.
