

Born on December 8, 1924, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, Charlie honorably served his country from 1943 to 1946 as a Private First Class with the 155th Engineer Combat Battalion. During World War II, he participated in the Western Pacific and Southern Philippines campaigns, playing a vital role in engineering and combat operations that supported Allied forces throughout the Pacific Theater.
In recognition of his faithful and meritorious service, Charlie was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, and the Bronze Star. His military service reflected courage, discipline, and an unwavering commitment to duty.
Following his honorable discharge, Charlie returned home and devoted his life to his family while continuing his service as a civilian employee of the United States Government for 30 years. Shortly after returning from the war, he fulfilled a lifelong dream by earning his pilot’s license. After his retirement from government service, he founded Cagle Construction, where he built and sold custom homes for many years. Throughout his life, Charlie embodied the values of his generation—integrity, perseverance, hard work, and quiet patriotism.
Charlie was preceded in death by his father, Evert Cagle, and his mother, Mintie Vick. He is survived by his children: Nathan Cagle; Debbie Lewis and her husband, Johnny Lewis; Rhonda Cagle; and Norman Cagle and his wife, Debbie Cagle. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kristin Spencer and her husband, Dan Spencer, and Brandan Cagle and his wife, Sadie Cagle; his great-grandchildren, Madison Spencer and Ethan Spencer; along with extended family members and friends, who will continue to honor and cherish his legacy.
The family is deeply grateful for Charlie’s long and full life and for his devoted service to our nation. He will be remembered with profound gratitude for his role in preserving freedom during one of history’s most pivotal eras.
A funeral service with full military honors will be held on Monday, January 26th, 2026 at 11:15 AM. Interment will take place at Miramar National Cemetery, 5795 Nobel Drive, San Diego, California 92122.
Following the service, a gathering will be held at 955 Howard Avenue, Escondido, California 92029, Villa Madeira Senior Mobile Home Park Recreation Room. Food and drinks will be provided.
