Barbra Ruth Wilson

Barbra was born November 21, 1930 to Roy and Mae Eades in Yuba City, CA. She was the first of four daughters: Royette, Rosalee, and Nancy followed. They moved to Bridgeville, then Samoa and Carlotta, with Barbra graduating from Fortuna High in 1948. She met the love of her life at the Ferndale Fair. He was just returned from the service and asked her to ride on the ferris wheel with him. They were married December 4, 1948, and settled in Fortuna where they raised a family of four; Jacqueline, Clifford, Dennis and Brian.

Barbra loved spending time with her family. She spent over 60 years being a wife, mother, homemaker and grandmother. She loved gardening, crocheting, ceramics and canning (especially the salmon she and Jack caught). She was a wonderful cook. No one made a better apple pie. She always had a new project underway, from a bench in the garden to new curtains on the windows. Barbra and Jack spent their last years together building their home on the hill above Fortuna on Fernwood Road. Family and holiday dinners were not to be missed.

Of all the many things she enjoyed, salmon fishing with Jack was some of the most happy times she had. Barbra and Jack loved the ocean. According to her wishes, her ashes will be scattered at sea in the same area Jack’s ashes were scattered.

Barbra was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Mae Eades, her sister Rosalee and her husband Jack.

She is survived by her children, Jacqueline (Michael) Shannon of Eureka, Clifford (Lydia) Wilson of Klamath Falls, OR, Dennis (Kristii) Wilson of Fortuna and Brian Wilson of Fortuna; sisters Royette Legg of Alaska and Nancy (Richard) Haberman of Eureka; grandchildren Andrea, Ben and Cody Wilson of Fortuna, Shiloh (Amy), Seth (Amanda) and Luke (Courtney) Wilson of Oregon, Amelia (Duane) Holm of Eureka and Skip Bundeson of Graham, WA; great-grandchildren Dreya, Cali and Kyle Bundeson of Washington, Isaac Hartley of Fortuna, Maycie and Madison Wilson of Oregon, Tyler and Ben Wilson of Oregon and finally, the newest, another Jack Wilson. Grandma Barbra loved all her grandchildren and was so proud of all of them. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Hospice of Humboldt and Home Health Care. Lynn and Chris made it possible for Barbra to spend the last of her days in her own home. The family couldn’t have done it without Lynn and Chris. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to either Hospice of Humboldt or Home Health Care.

The courage, grace and dignity Barbra showed these last months was an inspiration to her family. She will be greatly missed. As Barbra requested, there will be no formal services.
