Obituary of Alene Koehl
Jeptha “Alene” Koehl, 91, of Evansville, IN passed away Friday, October 25, 2019, at Velrose Assisted Living in Melbourne, FL with her daughter and granddaughters by her side. Alene was born on January 29, 1928, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and spent most of her childhood on the family farm in Tennessee. She married her husband, William Koehl, and they shared 56 years raising a family, camping and fishing at Barkley Lake and wintering in Florida for many years. She worked as a bookkeeper at Wattam Plumbing in Indianapolis when her and Bill were first married. She enjoyed sewing and quilting. Her group of friends “The Wednesday Girls” would get together for lunch and enjoyed friendship and companionship for over 50 years. Alene’s faith was paramount in her life and she was a former member of Union United Church of Christ (which is no longer) and most recently a member of Vann Avenue Baptist Church. Alene was preceded in death by her parents, Edward Haak and Mary (Hardick) Hood; husband of 56 years, William Koehl; brother, Fred Haak; sister, Lena Williams; sons, Robert and Jack Koehl; and granddaughter, Abbigail Koehl. Alene is survived by her daughter, Christine Hutchison (Tom) of Melbourne, FL; grandchildren, Christopher (Ursula), Katherine Skinner, Erin Ryczek (Daniel), and Anne Marie Cox (Zac); and great-grandchildren, Jackson, Allie, Maura, and Elena. Public viewing will be held from 12:00 to 1:00 PM on Saturday, November 9th at Alexander East Chapel with the funeral service starting at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. All are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Samaritan’s Purse, Operation Christmas Child.
