

Alfred Bauer, Sr., 96, of Evansville, passed away Saturday, June 24, 2017, at home. He was born June 30, 1920, in Posey County, IN. He was related to the Angel family and had lived with his mother at his grandfather's farm at Angel Mounds until he was 16 years old.
He was a homebuilder, past president of Evansville Homebuilders Association, a member of Methodist Temple United Methodist Church, and the Evansville Optimist Club. Alfred enjoyed fishing and on January 19, 1956, caught a 6'10" sailfish in the Pompano Beach Fishing Tournament. During the 1969 Evansville Parade of Homes, he received the first place award for excellence in use of new products. In 1979, Alfred was recognized for outstanding services as director of Metropolitan Evansville Home Builders. On November 9, 1993, they also awarded him with life member status in appreciation of 30 years of continued support as a builder member and past president, and in 1995 for Blitz Build. The Home Owners Warranty Group of Metropolitan Evansville presented Alfred with a certificate of appreciation, as well as recognition of his outstanding services as chairmen of the screening committee in 1977. He was also a member of the 1980 National Association of Home Builders Board of Directors. Alfred was also a member of the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, becoming a member in November 2011. He enjoyed golfing, especially with his daughter, Gariann. During one of their golf outings at Rolling Hills Country Club, Alfred shot a hole in one; he could hit the ball farther than men 12 years younger than him.
Alfred was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Bauer, in 1996; and sister, Marge Lee.
He is survived by his wife, Lanelle Bauer of Evansville; daughter, Carol (Don) Minnie of Ft. Myers, FL; daughter, Dianna Stewart of Lakeland, FL; son, Alfred Bauer, Jr. of Evansville; daughter, Gariann (Glenn) Small of Bonita Springs, FL; seven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, June 28, 2017, at Alexander East Chapel, officiated by Rev. Andy Payton, with entombment at Park Lawn Cemetery. Friends may visit Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
