Barbara Jean Halwes

Barbara Jean Halwes, 82, of Evansville, IN, passed away Saturday, March 10, 2018, at the Linda White Hospice House. She was born April 18, 1935, in Ralls County, Missouri, to the late James and Lucy (Collins) Brakel. Barbara was a longtime member of Forest Hills Wesleyan Church. She was a graduate of Clay Kentucky High School, Class of ’53 and Lockyear Business College. She worked for the Vanderburgh County Clerk’s office and the Treasurer’s office. Barbara retired from Princess Nyla Cosmetics, after 25 years of service as a secretary. She volunteered at Cypress Nursing Home where she enjoyed serving and helping others. Barbara was a seamstress, loved Southern Gospel music and was an avid reader. Her proudest moment was the adoption of her children, Shala and Darvin. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Norman Halwes; and daughter, Shala Halwes. She is survived by son, Darvin Halwes and wife, Vicki of Louisiana; brother, Wayne Brakel and wife, Alice of Newburgh; sister, Izetta Brakel of Evansville; three grandchildren; one great grandchild; and two nephews, Tim and Keith Brakel. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, March 15, 2018, at Alexander East Chapel, officiated by Rev. Ray Austin, with burial in Park Lawn Cemetery. Friends may visit Wednesday from 2:00 to 8:00 PM and Thursday from 10:00 AM until service time at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to a Charity of Your Choice.
