Barry L. Johnson

Barry L. Johnson, 84, of Evansville, IN passed peacefully with the support of his family on Friday, May 23, 2025. He was born on September 27, 1940 in Mattoon, IL to the late William and Lurline (Bell) Johnson.

Barry was a lifetime member of the YMCA. He also had memberships at the Owls and The Evansville Athletic Club. He enjoyed sports, exercising, traveling, and spending time outdoors. Barry was a talented baseball player, playing briefly for the Pittsburg Pirates minor league baseball system. He was also an avid Chicago Cubs fan.

Barry graduated from Bosse High School in 1958. He then attended Evansville College obtaining his undergraduate degree and from there attended Indiana University earning a Master’s Degree.

Barry was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Bill “Sonny” Johnson.

He is survived by his companion, Judy Johnson; son, Jeffrey Johnson (Sarah); daughter, Jill Johnson; sons, Chance Johnson and Spencer Johnson; step-daughter, Andrea Wittmer (Shawn); grandchildren, Kyle, Max, Reed, Sophia, Noah, Margo, Adeline and Nicole.

Family and friends may visit on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at Alexander East Chapel, 2115 Lincoln Avenue from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. followed by a brief service beginning at 6:30 p.m.
