Bernita “Benny” Joyce Simpson, 83, of Evansville, passed away Tuesday, June 27, 2017, at Signature Healthcare in Newburgh. She was born November 11, 1933, in Holland, IN to the late Homer and Alberta (Sherman) Ellis.
She was a 1951 graduate of Bosse High School and worked at Bucyrus Erie and LTV Steel, retiring in 1982. Bernita was a member of Northeast Park Baptist Church, where she was a former Sunday school teacher. She enjoyed crafting, needlework, quilting, cooking, and playing the piano.
Bernita was preceded in death by her husband, of 43 years, Glenn “Zip” Simpson; son, Daniel Glenn Simpson; and brother-in-law, Herbert Toone.
She is survived by her sister, Wanda Toone; brother, Glendal “Jeep” Ellis; niece, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral Services will be 1:00 PM Friday, June 30, 2017, at Alexander East Chapel, officiated by Rev. Steve Taylor, with entombment in Park Lawn Cemetery. Friends may visit Friday from 11:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
