Obituary of Betty M. Yates
Betty Mae (Nicodem) Yates, 94, passed away on Sunday, November 4, 2018 at Bethel Manor. She was born on March 27, 1924, the daughter of George and Virginia Nicodem, in Miami, Florida. Betty was a devoted follower of Christ and a lifelong member of the Methodist Church and served the Lord in many ways and offices over her lifetime, including teaching Sunday School for many years, United Methodist Women and singing in the choir. She is presently a member of Albright United Methodist Church. She moved to Evansville to be closer to her family, which was very important to her. While living in Evansville, she became a Certified Apartment Manager and was manager of Diamond Valley Apartments. She was preceded in death by brothers, Jack and Bill Nicodem; parents George and Virginian Nicodem; ex-husband, Dewey Yates and son, Jerry Yates. Betty is survived by her daughter, Rev. Marianne Hawkins (Daryle); daughter-in-law, Ginny Yates; grandchildren, Rick (Mitzi), Brenda, Patrick (Mara), Scott, Shawn (Stacey) and Shannon; great-grandchildren, Nathan, Sebastian, Olivia, Andrew, Garrett, Katy, Andon and Max; her sister, Jean Hall (Dave); brothers, Bob Nicodem (Evelyn) and Tom Nicodem (Pat) and nieces and nephews. The family wishes to extend many thanks to Bethel Manor and Southern Care Hospice for the loving care she received. A Celebration of Life Service will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, November 8, 2018 at Albright United Methodist Church, 606 Van Dusen Avenue, officiated by Pastor Patrick Jackson, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may visit Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to service time at the church.
