Blanche Cora Wright, 98, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, September 24, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Home. She was born on July 5, 1921 in Abraham, West Virginia to the late Jesse and Maude (Plumley) Smith.
She began her career as a nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital. Blanche then was a nurse for Dr. Harold Sparks, in Evansville, for over 10 years and later worked as a nurse at a nursing home in Dale, IN. She was very proud to be the first certified acupuncture therapist in the State of Indiana. Blanche was an avid golfer, who enjoyed playing golf in the Ladies Club at Christmas Lake Golf Course. She loved the horse racing at Ellis Park.
Blanche was preceded in death by husbands, Thomas McKinney, Otis Marret, and Wallace Wright; significant other, Winford Shelton; daughter, Carol Frankum; granddaughter, Stacie Marret; and brothers, Clay and Russell Smith.
She is survived by her son, Thomas McKinney II; daughter, Blanche Taylor (Wayne); sons, Robert Marret, Kevin Marret (Sherry), Steve Marret (Marcia) and Gary Marret (Rose); 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 28, 2019 at Alexander East Chapel with Rev. Larry Schauberger officiating. Burial will follow at Sorgho Baptist Church Cemetery in Owensboro, KY. Friends may visit 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
