Claudia Sue Watson, 72, passed away Tuesday June 27th at home with her husband at her side and is now with her Lord and Savior. Claudia was a much loved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, friend and devout born again Christian from the age of 51. Born to James & Thelma Dowdle on August 14, 1944 in Evansville, IN. She was the second oldest of seven children and was proud to say although she grew older, she never had to grow up. And grow up she did not. She surrounded herself with children and laughter her entire life. She was a Reitz High School graduate, class of 1962.
Claudia is survived by her loving husband of 28 years Roger Watson, son Brent (Carmen) Norman, daughter Melinda (Lonnie) Lindauer, daughter Melissa Bork, siblings Linda (Doug) Railey, Jennifer (Don) Fulton, Rebecca (Tom) Conner, Danny (Kathy) Dowdle, Lanny (Zuki) Dowdle, Bonnie (Howard) Wells as well as grandchildren Zach Fischer, Miranda Molinet, Kara Brubaker, Kate Lindauer, Jacob Norman, Melanie Norman, Megan Norman, Madison Norman, Jeremy Norman, Rebecca Bork, Owen Bork, six great grandchildren, and grandmother to Stefany Hack, Lauren Hack, Rochelle Hack, Paul Hack, and Jeremy Hack .
Claudia quoted her father in saying if you are going to get old then you better be tough, because aging is not for wimps. And tough she was as she fought a very long battle with PSP. Despite fighting this tough battle she never lost her love of children and her "critters" (several small pets). At every chance possible Claudia was outside playing with children or on the ground happily playing board games, trivia children's game with not only her own relatives but every child she met. Children learned winning from Claudia due to her quick wit.
Although it may sound like a cliché, Claudia truly never met a stranger. Wherever she was, she began a conversation with whoever was around her, learning about them, their family and somehow memorizing every fact about them. Quite often she became lifelong friends with those she met. One of her wonderful friends she loved dearly was Judy Perry who called her every day. Claudia loved family functions and meeting any new additions to her very large family. Inevitably, Claudia would end up playing games with the children, being 'silly' with them and enjoying every minute. Although later in life her illness cruelly worked at her body, Claudia truly never had to 'grow up'.
As a member of Faith Bible Church in Evansville, IN and Grace Bible Sanctuary in Palm Bay, FL she greatly enjoyed learning more about Christ and worship services. She was unwavering in her love and devotion to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Without any doubt, she is now with her Lord and Savior patiently awaiting the hundreds of relatives and friends she knew and cared so much about during her life. In lieu of flowers, friends and relatives may make donations to the Humane Society to help the “critters” Claudia loved so much.
Friends may visit from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, June 30th at Alexander West Chapel for a celebration of her life.
