David Lee Wilson

On Tuesday, April 10, 2018, God called his servant David L. Wilson home. Dave was born on October 5, 1955, to Betty (Norton) and Carl Robert Wilson in Vincennes, IN, where he lived until 1983, when he accepted a position in Evansville as a journeyman lineman with Southern Indiana Gas and Electric Company.

He was passionate about his work and those he worked with. He took the responsibility of sharing his experience with the next generation of linemen very seriously. After a 32 year career, Dave retired from Vectren in 2015.

Dave loved God and his family. He was known as “Pops” to his beloved grandchildren, he adored them and enjoyed their frequent visits, and sleep overs. Watching him love on them was something special. He could be seen teaching them the use of a Red Ryder BB Gun, throwing snap pops, singing with his granddaughter, or rocking them in his easy chair watching their favorite cartoons and movies. He truly had a servants heart, often out and about in the community, loving on, and cooking for the less fortunate. Dave welded crosses that he gave away for mission teams, family, friends, and often to people whom he encountered that were struggling. As he welded the crosses he always prayed over them, that God would use them to speak to the hearts of all who received them.

Dave was loved by so many. He had a great sense of humor, and delighted in playing harmless practical jokes on friends and family. He was always positive and encouraging to everyone around him. He continued that attitude during his entire journey that began 6 months ago when he was diagnosed with glioblastoma.

He also enjoyed woodworking, gardening, camping, and coming to the aid of others in any way he could. As a member of Olivet Community Church, he facilitated the Thursday Night Men’s Group, for the past 10 years. Dave was also active in the Tri State Tres Dias community, and Evansville area Chrysalis. He volunteered at the Potter’s Wheel, Evansville Rescue Mission, Holly’s House, Vanderburgh County Jail, and Kairos Ministry.

Dave is preceded in death by his parents; seven grandchildren; and brother-in-law, Steve Cobb.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Mary Ann (Wade); sons, Daniel (Jessica), Michael (Erickia); sisters, Cindy Wilber (Dave), Carla Cobb, Lynn Nathan (John); brother, Greg Wilson; grandchildren, Lake, Gracelyn, and Elijah Wilson; numerous nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held 10:00 AM on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at Olivet Community Church, 5600 Oakhill Road, officiated by Rev. Dave Mills and Rev. Mark Thompson, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit from 3:00 to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at Alexander East Chapel, 2115 Lincoln Avenue.
