He was born January 20, 1930, to Loren Pearl Myrick Sr. and Bessie Ann Myrick in Evansville, IN. He graduated from Central High School in 1948 and served in the U.S. Army. He worked and retired in 1992 from Creative Press after 39 years of service.
He was a lifetime member of St. John United Church of Christ, downtown, where he was active including being on the Council, a Deacon, and in the Choir. He also supported Russian and Ukrainian Refugees.
Don was also a member of The American Legion, Olde Tyme Auto Club, Tri-State Model A Club, Cabriolet Club, and the Kennel and Petroleum Clubs.
Don loved animals, especially “Crystal Gayle.” He was a gardener, golfer, and enjoyed his antique cars. Since Don’s stroke in November 2008, life had been very challenging, but he always had a sense of humor and loved to make us laugh. He taught us perseverance, love, faithfulness and loyalty. He will be missed by all whose lives he touched.
Don was preceded in death by the love of his life, Doris Jean Myrick, his wife of 52 years; his father and mother, Loren Pearl Myrick Sr. and Bessie Ann Myrick; a brother, Loren Pearl Myrick Jr.; and sisters, Helen (Myrick) Merle and Thelma (Myrick) Barton.
Don is survived by a sister, Barbara (Myrick) Jones of Coral Springs, FL; a brother, James Myrick of Temecula, CA; a nephew, Daryl Merle; eight godchildren, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by special friends, Debbie, Mark, and Megan McManaway.
We would like to express our appreciation to Senior Helpers staff for taking care of Don at home the past two years, especially to Jennifer Peerman. We would also like to thank Deaconess Hospice Care.
