
He grew up in Evansville and graduated from Bosse High School in 1951. He served in the US Army from 1953-1955 being Honorably discharged at the rank of Corporal. He returned to Evansville and worked for Swift and Company before starting his 30-year career with Alcoa.
He was an active member of Crossroads Christian Church. Before his health declined, he would make sure the lawn was beautifully mowed and trimmed for every Sunday service.
One of his favorite hobbies was growing roses. Their home was surrounded by exquisite, colorful roses. He showcased his roses by maintaining a meticulous lawn, many, many hours were spent outside sustaining the beauty.
Everyone in the neighborhood knew Eldon by his lawn and his bicycle. He would ride around the neighborhood and stop to talk to anyone outside. He talked to so many people in the neighborhood that if he missed a day, someone would stop by the house to check on him.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Hughie Elmo Jones; and sister, Iva Margaret McCormick.
Eldon is survived by his wife of 48 years, Betty (Collier) Jones; step-daughter, Connie (Marlin) Goebel; step-son, Lenn Langford; grandson, Brandon (Abby) Goebel; granddaughter, Dawn (Dennis) Plumlee; numerous great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren; and, Katrina Gibbs, his favorite niece and devoted caregiver.
The family would like to sincerely thank his compassionate caregivers, Summer, Faye, Lorie, and Dytana, with an extended thanks to Almost Kin and AseraCare Hospice.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, January, January 15, 2026 at Alexander East Chapel, 2115 Lincoln Avenue, with entombment at Park Lawn Cemetery. Family and friends may visit Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
