Elizabeth Sims, 92, of Evansville, IN transitioned to her eternal resting place on Monday, May 31,2021, at home surrounded by her loving family. On March 17, 1929, she took her first breath of life and was birthed by the late Walter Fleming Sr. and Mattie Bell (Plummer) Fleming in Canton, MS.
Growing up with 9 siblings, she mastered the art of spreading unconditional love for others and the Lord. She was a hard worker and spent her working days at Seton Manor.
Her life was well lived, and star studded with active roles within the church. She was an active member at Johnson Temple Church of God and Christ under Pastor R. L Johnson where she served as Big Sister Sunshine, a Mother of the church, a Sunday School Teacher, treasurer, and secretary. There she was bestowed with her missionary license. She continued her work with the Bread of Life Kingdom Ministries (formerly, Progressive Holy Temple) under Apostle William W. Simmons and Mother Felicia Simmons, where she served on the Pastoral Aide Committee as a Good Shepherd worker, Sunday School teacher, and the Mother’s Board. Mother Elizabeth truly understood her purpose and fervently spread her faith. She was a beacon of life and loved to serve others.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her son Thomas Edward Sims and daughter Patricia Bell Scott, brothers: Tommie, Ozie, W.B , Walter, John, Mozell Sr, and sister: Mattie Lee Bledso.
She is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, John Sims. Her daughters, Verlean Cooper, Johnnie Sims Madison, and Myra Sims Colon (Eddie) all of Evansville, IN; Christi Sims of Indianapolis, IN and son Timothy Sims (DeVona) of Montgomery, AL; grandchildren (14) , great- grandchildren (30), one brother E.L Fleming (Hazel) of Jackson, MS; one sister Arnisha Fleming of Evansville, IN and sister in laws: Maggie Mae Sims of Sharon, MS and Hattie Fleming of Evansville, IN.
Elizabeth was full of life, loved entertaining her family, but most of all she loved the Lord and served with great purpose every day. She truly understood the roles of being a servant and a leader.
Everyone knew Elizabeth delighted in a diet Pepsi and a bag of Cheetos as her favorite snack. It was a known house rule for her grandchildren, that if you stayed Saturday night, you were going to church early Sunday morning; and everyone had to load up in the pink Cadillac.
As our family mourns the loss of Mother Elizabeth Sims on Earth, we rejoice in knowing that she is now with the Lord.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at Christian Tabernacle Church. Friends may visit from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 5, 2021. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
