

He worked 42 years of vending routes, beginning with Southern Vendors and Wholesalers, then Schroeder’s Vending Company, before retiring from Fischer Candy Company. Elzie attended Grace and Peace Lutheran Church. He was a devoted family man, father and brother, known affectionately as “Paw” to his grandchildren, and “Paw Toy” to his great-grandchildren, who lived his life for his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He loved teaching his close up magic tricks to his grandchildren and was known to many by his ability to imitate a train whistle. Elzie loved music and sang and played guitar at many family gatherings. He also performed on the radio several times.
Elzie was preceded in death by the love of his life and wife of 67 years, Marietta (Robinson) Toy; and daughter, Sharon Maria Lee.
He is survived by his son, Gary D. (Deborah) Toy; daughter, Theresa (David) Burress; son-in-law, John Lee; siblings, Julia Sparks, Catherine Matthews, and Cynthia Kaiser; grandchildren, Amber Schiff, Andrea Lee and Adam Burress; great-grandchildren, Tyler and Brady Schiff; and countless nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Tuesday, July 19, 2016, at Alexander West Chapel, officiated by Pastor Roberta Meyer, with entombment in Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit Monday from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
