Emilie Wilhelmina Johanna Kemper of Indianapolis, Ind., formally of Evansville, Ind., died peacefully February 1, 2012 at the age of 101. Services will be held in Evansville, Ind. at Alexander’s Funeral Homes, Inc., West Chapel, at 2100 W. Illinois St. Visitation will be on Saturday, February 4, from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. with the funeral services immediately following. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Kemper was born on July 1, 1910 to John and Anna Neu of Posey County in Indiana. She married Wilfred August Kemper in Evansville, Ind. on November 30, 1938 and he preceded her in death on December 14, 1971.
Survivors include one son, Byron W. (J. Kim) Kemper of Champaign,Ill.; one daughter, Lucinda Carr (Philip) Barth of Indianapolis, Ind.; 6 grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Her brother, John Neu, and two sisters, Elfrieda Waltz Herrenbruck and Caroline Saalweachter, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Kemper lived in Evansville for more than 80 years. She was a homemaker and enjoyed baking, cooking, gardening, and quilting. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ where she was in Ladies Aide and led the quilting group for many years. She was a 4-H leader for many years and was active in the Posey County Home Economics Club. She also worked with her husband in the Kemper Bros. Grocery in Evansville.
