Gerald Edgar Neu

Gerald was born on July 17, 1941 to Edgar Neu and Clara (Feldhaus) Neu 83 Years ago.

Gerald joined the Army at 17 years old, went to Ft. Campbell and then stationed in Worms Germany as a transportation Specialist transporting troopers and he drove through Germany delivering supplies and equipment. He was lucky enough to be at the same location that Elvis was stationed and got to meet him.

After returning to the states he went to work at Whirlpool in 1962. He worked his way up to a scheduler of all the steel going through the factory and retiring in 1989 to go into business for himself at “A-1 guns and Jewelry” which he ran for 8 years and met some wonderful people who became good friends. He retired in 1997 to pursue his hobbies, Fishing, woodworking, collecting cookie jars and reading. Gerald was a lifetime member of EAC, River Bend, Am Vets Post 9, The Owls and a Legionnaire at Post 265.

Gerald is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Georgia (Cummings) Neu, Daughter, Summer McDaniel (Bryan); granddaughter, Haley McDaniel; brother, Donald Neu (Margaret (Rafferty) Neu; sister, Janet Neu; nephews, Troy Neu, Ty Neu and his fur baby, Mitzi.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents and in-laws, George Cummings Jr., Virginia (Orth) Cummings; son, Brandon Neu and Nephew Todd Neu.

Friends and family may visit on Saturday, January 25, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Alexander West Chapel 2100 W. Illinois St. Evansville. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Military Honors at the funeral home. A celebration of Gerald’s life will be held at the Owls from 2:00-6:00 p.m.
