Obituary of Jack Lee Barnett
Jack L. Barnett, 96, of Ft. Myers, Florida, died September 13, 2020. He was born in Evansville, Indiana, on April 4, 1924. He moved to Ft. Myers, Florida in 1968. After graduating from Bosse High School in 1942, he received a B.S. degree in business management from Indiana University in 1946. Later he graduated from the American Institute of Baking in Chicago and The Industrial Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In 1960 he received a B.S. in elementary education from Indiana University. Later in 1965, he earned an M.S. degree in elementary education from Indiana University. While in Florida, he received a Specialist Degree in elementary administration from the University of South Florida. While residing in Evansville, he taught at Oakdale School in Boonville and at Fairlawn School in Evansville. Jack was a member of Evansville Masonic Lodge No. 64 and a past member of Evansville Scottish Rite and Hadi Shrine Temple. He was a member and elder at the United Church of Christ. While in college, he was a member of Theta Chi social fraternity, Alpha Kappa Psi business fraternity, and the ROTC program. He enjoyed the world of music while playing percussion instruments in many dance bands. In recent years, he enjoyed playing the blues and ole swing music on his Hammond organ. Too, he liked to write books about golf, basketball, casinos, fishing and happenings in elementary school settings. Rachel, his wife of 51 years, died in January of 2000. He is survived by his brother-in-law John David Stokes, one niece, two nephews and his daughter by choice, Sharon Ann Helton. He believed strongly in the equality of man. Everyone has a place and contributes to our way of life. Be good to your fellow man is the theme of life. Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. CDT on Saturday, September 26, 2020 at Alexander East Chapel, 2115 Lincoln Avenue. Friends may visit from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. CDT on Friday at the funeral home where Evansville Masonic Lodge will conduct a Masonic Service at 7:00 p.m. CDT. Friends may also visit on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. CDT until service time. Burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Park. “He was a regular guy.”
