Janet was the daughter of the Reverend Charles M. and Delta K. Hartman, sister of the Reverend W. Leon Hartman and Lotus C. Hartman, all deceased. Her brother, Paul W. Hartman (Rebecca) of Ft Worth, TX, survives.
After graduating from high school in Tamms, Illinois in 1951, Janet matriculated to Asbury College to study education with the intent of becoming a teacher. At Asbury, she met her late husband Robert Fulton “Bob” Pollock. They were married in 1953 and moved to Indiana where Bob finished his college degree, attended seminary, and was ordained a Methodist minister.
In 1957 at the age of 24, Janet was a preacher’s wife and mother of four children ranging in age from newborn to four years old. Each of those first years of marriage were accompanied by a newborn and several of those years included moving to a new church as Bob was transferred from one Methodist church to another. Her faith in God and love for her family guided her through those challenging early years.
In 1965, the Pollock family moved to Evansville, Indiana where husband, Bob, became an Associate Pastor at the Methodist Temple. Having never finished her bachelor’s degree, Janet enrolled at the University of Evansville majoring in Education. When she was awarded her degree in 1968, she was preparing for the birth of their fifth child.
Janet began her teaching career soon thereafter. She taught at various elementary schools in Southern Indiana and at Vincennes University. Career changes were often precipitated by her late husband’s career and life changes. There were many challenges during those years that would have embittered many people, but Janet’s faith in Christ never wavered. Janet spent her retirement years in Evansville continuing her service to her faith and to her family and as an active member of the Methodist Temple. In addition to her parents and older siblings, Janet is preceded in death by the father of her children, Bob.
Her legacy to the world and the love of her earthly life is her family. She is survived by her five children and their spouses. Robert Fulton “Bob” Pollock, Jr. and wife Kelli Pollock of Fishers, IN, David Mark Pollock and wife Jennifer Pollock of Mountain Brook, AL, Diane Pollock Anderson and husband Vince Anderson of Evansville, IN, Jay Douglas “Doug” Pollock and wife Jennifer Pollock of Riverside, IL, Charles Hartman “Chad” Pollock and wife Heather Pollock of Indianapolis, IN, plus 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Janet was a child of God and a disciple of Jesus Christ. She lived her life in ministry to the Lord and to the Lord’s creation. It is a testament to her strength and faith that all her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren continue to gather in fellowship every Christmas and summer season to celebrate Christ and the enduring love that is Janet Hartman Pollock.
The family would like to thank the Evansville Protestant Home for their compassionate care of Janet the last 3 years, Heart to Heart Hospice, the palliative care team of St. Vincent, and her second family, the people of Methodist Temple.
Family and friends are invited to attend a service in worship to God and in honor of Janet on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at the Methodist Temple United Methodist Church (2109 Lincoln Avenue, Evansville, Indiana). The service will be led by the Reverend Andy Payton. Visitation with the family begins at 9 AM followed by a worship service at 11 AM. The service will be live streamed on the Methodist Temple YouTube channel.
