JoAnn, known to many as Sisco, was born on October 3, 1952, in Evansville and raised on the Steinkamp family farm, before moving into town on the west side. JoAnn graduated from Mater Dei in 1970. Then went on to study nursing at The Evansville School of Health Occupations and graduated in 1978 with her LPN degree. JoAnn was always the ‘Life of The Party’ and always spoke about working at the Forget Me Not as a bar tender during the 70’s. JoAnn met Bobby G. Carey and were married in Las Vegas, NV on December 5, 1985, during one of their many trips out west. They loved taking trips out west to visit some of the Sisco family in California. JoAnn and Bobby enjoyed traveling the world and spending time enjoying life together. Although JoAnn and Bobby did not have any children together, she did enjoy having two teenage sons from Bob’s previous marriage. She would always joke by saying that she got two teenage boys and after raising ‘teenagers’, she did not want to have any more kids. JoAnn was always a fun loving person who always carried a camera or video camera. Family time was always important and she loved having family gatherings and playing with the kids in the family. She loved spending time kid sitting her great nieces and nephews. They loved being spoiled by their Aunt JoAnn.
After Bobby passed away, she still loved traveling with her friend, Lisa Alexander. They would travel down to the Sweet Potato Queen Festivals in Mississippi and to New Orleans, where shenanigans would occur. They even traveled to Ireland where she was able to ‘Kiss the Blarney Stone’. She also enjoyed some good ‘olé Irish whiskey in the pubs too. She would always return with amazing stories of her adventures.
JoAnn worked as a third shift nurse on skilled nursing units in various facilities in the tristate area. She helped to build the nursing unit when the West River Rehab facility first opened. She also worked at Solarbron Terrance, Newburgh Healthcare, and several other facilities in the tristate. She had a passion for nursing and always volunteered for the Holiday shifts to allow her co-workers, with small children, time to spend with their families.
JoAnn leaves behind a legacy of two children, Bret Carey and Brian Carey (Nicole), and two siblings, Linda ‘Sisco’ Reising and Larry Sisco, and sister in law, Celinda (Karn) Sisco (Don); four grandchildren, Brandi Cochrane (Jamie), Cameron Carey (Hannah), Brian Carey, and Kimberly Carey; five nieces and nephews, Tari Humbane (Sabino), Joel E. Sisco (Brittany), Rachel Reising, Hallie Kanzler, and Justin Reising (Lisa); two great grandchildren, and many great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold W. Sisco and Agnes S. Sisco, her brother, Donald J. Sisco, and her husband, Bobby G. Carey.
