

Master Sgt. John T. Dabney, USAF, 105, of Evansville, passed away on Sunday, April 30, 2023. He was born in Hopkinsville, KY on September 7, 1917 to the late Pink Dabney Jr. and Sarah E. (Tandy) Dabney.
He was a long time member of New Hope Baptist Church where he faithfully served on the usher board and the trustee board. John was a Past Worshipful Master of Evansville Masonic Lodge #5, Past Commander in Chief of St. John Consistory #54, Past Potentate of Cawthar Shrine Temple #118, Honorary Past Imperial Potentate, Past District Deputy Grand Master of the Southwest District Prince Hall Grand Lodge, and a former Deputy of the Oasis of Evansville.
John served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946 and retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1971 after a lifetime of dedicated military service. He served in WWII and the Korean War. John was a member of the American Legion Otis Stone Post 354 and retired from L & N Railroad.
He was preceded in death by two wives; sisters, Ina Velle Dabney Thornton, Sallie Mae Dabney; brothers, Robert Dabney, William Dabney, George Dabney, and Louis V. Dabney; and grandson, Alonzo Owens.
John is survived by one daughter, Mary Harris; three grandsons, Jerome Kirk Dabney, Kirkpatrick Owens, and Robert Owens; two great-granddaughters, one great-grandson; brother-in-law, Robert Lindsey (Betty) of Rockport, IN; a niece who helped with his care, Lorene Lindsey of Evansville, IN; and other nieces, nephews, cousins, along with many friends.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to Noon on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at New Hope Baptist Church, 663 W.R. Brown, Sr. Way, Evansville, IN 47713. A Military Service will begin at 10:30 a.m. conducted by the Retired Veterans Military Club and American Legion Otis Stone Post 354 followed by a Masonic Service at 11:00 a.m. directed by Evansville Masonic Lodge No. 5. The Funeral Service will begin at Noon Saturday at the church officiated by Pastor Ryan Jackson.
A Private Burial Service will be held on Monday, May 8, 2023 at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West in Hopkinsville, KY.
