

John R. Hyde, 84, of Evansville, went to be with the Lord, on Saturday, December 7, 2013, at North Park Nursing Center. He was born June 12, 1929, in Belize City, Central America. John came to the USA on February 2, 1954, and became a citizen on June 4, 1963.
He worked at Fendrich Cigar Factory, American Tabacco Company and General Foods, where he retired in 1993. He was an avid handball player and won several trophies. He was the recipient of the Rager Award from St. Mary Catholic Church, where he was a member for 58 years. He also won the Golden Glove championship in Belize.
John is survived by his wife of 60 years, Eileen Hyde; children, Wallace (Rhonda), Lizabeth (Ed), Sheila (Greg) and John Jr. (Wenjie); grandchildren, Jennifer (John), Jeremy, Jessica, Hillary and Jaren; great-grandchildren, John-John, Elijah and Claire Connelly; brothers, Charles and Gerald Hyde; and sister, Victoria Phillips.
Services will be 10:00 AM Friday, December 13, 2013, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 613 Cherry Street, officiated by Fr. Steve Lintzenich, with burial in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Friends may visit Thursday from 2:00 to 6:00 PM, with a Memorial Service at 6:00 PM at Alexander West Chapel, 2100 West Illinois Street.
