Keith was born on October 16, 1958 and was the youngest of six children of Alice and Willis Mackey both of whom preceded him in death. Keith graduated from North High School and pursued his love of automobiles as a mechanic throughout his work career. He worked at Reis Tire and Firestone for many years.
For Keith, his family always came first and he showered them all with unconditional love. His deepest love was reserved for his wife Barbara Ann who unexpectedly passed away at age 47 after twenty three years of marriage. Forever grateful for the special love they had shared, Keith always kept Barbara’s picture at his side and her presence in his heart.
Keith leaves behind four children; Candace Rodgers (Jared) of Eugene, Oregon, LeeAnn Miles (Jerry), Justin Mackey and Kevin Mackey of Evansville and one step-daughter, Michelle Drennan of Evansville. His legacy includes eight grandchildren (Subria and India Rodgers, Rachelle Horne and Aiyana Miles, Peyton Whittley, Rylee Miles, Alex Stotlar, Amber Davis) two great-grandchildren (Lilyana and Layla Horne) and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Keith was adored by all of his brothers and sisters; Val Fehd (Alan) of
Elberfeld, Larry Mackey (Sarah) of Indianapolis, Judy Hall of Evansville, Roger Mackey of Newburgh and his departed sister Cheryl Ann Robertson (Allen) of Newburgh. One half-brother Don Mackey (Vickie) of Florida survives while half-brother Robert Mackey (Patricia) preceded Keith in death.
Often described as “the kindest soul”, Keith collected many life-long friends wherever he went; including the pool table in his favorite neighborhood bar. Since 2012, Keith battled cancer, first in his lungs and later in his brain, but was never heard to complain about his pain or misfortune.
Keith will be especially missed for his sweetness, warm greetings, wry smile, and dry sense of humor, long hugs and his special way of making everyone believe it when he said, “I love you”.
The Mackey family wishes to express its deepest appreciation to the entire team at the Heritage Center for the remarkable kindness, attention, care and love extended to Keith.
