Kenneth “Kenny” E. Miles, born April 16, 1921, in Evansville, passed into his new home where many friends and family members gathered to greet him. He left this life with his wife of 66 years, Geraldine (Young) Miles; daughter, Barbara Barlow; and “adopted daughter,” Harriet Sheets at his side at home on Monday, October 29, 2012.
He graduated from Reitz High School. He enlisted in the Marine Corps shortly after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. He belonged to the unique 2nd Airborne Defense Battalion in the Central Pacific Islands where he was assigned as Fire Controller on an anti-aircraft battery. After the war, he began working at Mead Johnson-Bristol-Myers, retiring after 38 years of loyal service.
Kenny’s greatest enjoyment was the time he spent at Dale Hollow Lake in Tennessee. There he met many people who became lifelong friends. After retirement, he and his wife took many trips, traveling extensively in the lower 48 states as well as Alaska and Hawaii. They also traveled to Australia, Europe, Scandinavia, Mexico and traversed the Panama Canal.
He has joined his parents, Joseph and Hattie Miles; brothers, Lloyd and Joseph; two nephews; and a nice who predeceased him.
Staying behind to celebrate his life, besides his wife and daughters, are his grandson, Kenneth Barlow (Tarrah); great-grandchildren, Piper Rayne and Xander Gabriel Barlow; nieces and nephews, whom he loved; and several special life-long friends.
Services will be 10:00 AM Friday, November 2, 2012, at Alexander East Chapel, officiated by Rev. Stephen Beutler, with entombment in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit Thursday from 3:00 to 8:00 PM and Friday from 9:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
The family is especially thankful for the care by Dr. Susan Stutes, Deaconess Home Health Care and Hospice Care and Home Instead’s overnight caregiver, James. A special thank you goes to Mary Gray for her delicious meals and caring friendship during his last year.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to any charity of choice. Condolences may be made online at www.AlexanderEastChapel.com.
