

Mary L. Scarbrough Lovell, born on August 20, 1924, in Yankeetown, bid farewell to the world on December 31, 2023 at the age of 99. She was the beloved daughter of the late James and Anna (Frobieter) Scarbrough.
A cherished mother survived by her daughter, Melva Lovell Steele, and son-in-law Tony. Her legacy lives on through her cherished grandchildren, Melanie Steele (Ryan Shelton) and Corey Steele (Stephanie), as well as her four adored great-grandchildren: Mylee, Maycee, and Chase Steele, and Gage Shelton.
Mary’s life was marked by service and resilience. A proud Rosie the Riveter during WWII, she played a crucial role in the war effort, working on war planes. Later in her career, she retired from Evansville State Hospital as a QMA and contributed to the community as a grocer at A&P Grocery. Through her dedication, Mary left an indelible mark on her family and her nation.
Special thanks are extended to the staff at Hamilton Pointe, with heartfelt appreciation for the care provided by staff members Jack, Lorlie, and Dawnita. Your kindness and support during Mary’s final days are deeply cherished.
May she rest in eternal peace alongside her two sons, Daniel and James Lovell, and her departed siblings Albert, Franky, and Henry Scarbrough, as well as sisters, Marie Horn and Wanda Doyle.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 5, 2024 at Alexander West Chapel, 2100 W. Illinois Street, Evansville, IN. followed by burial at Alexander Memorial Park. Friends and family may visit beginning at 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
