Maureen was beloved wife to Darrell A. Veach, and they were married for 58 wonderful years. Together, they raised a son, Darrell “Trip” Veach and a daughter, Kay Kiesel (Randy). Maureen’s legacy continues through her grandchildren, Kara Hoke (Brent) and Shelby Stevens (Ricky), and her many great-grandchildren, Kaylia, Emmy, Lydia, Nina, Braxton, and Barrett Hoke. She is also survived by her sister, Judy Shropshire (Rob), and was preceded in death by her brother, Wally Wayne Mefford.
A proud graduate of Lafayette High School in Lexington, Kentucky, Maureen built a dedicated career as a stenographer for the U.S. Air Force Base in Clovis, New Mexico, and later worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Lexington, the Social Security Administration, the Water Department, and as a bookkeeper at the Evansville Stockyards.
Maureen enjoyed fishing trips to Canada with her husband Darrell, traveling to Eleuthera with friends, and visiting one of her favorite destinations—Alaska. A devoted University of Kentucky fan, she loved cheering on the Wildcats.
Those who knew Maureen will remember her as the embodiment of a true Southern lady — elegant, quick-witted, and endlessly strong. She carried herself with grace and faith, meeting every season of life with poise and a smile. Known for her gourmet recipes, exquisite table settings, and her timeless sense of style, she brought beauty and refinement to everything she touched. Her sparkle, her laughter, and her warmth will live on forever in the hearts of those who were blessed to know and love her.
In accordance with her wishes, there will be no visitation or service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Humane Society, the Salvation Army, or the American Cancer Society.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staffs of the Village at Holiday Health Care and Heritage Hospice for their compassionate care.
