

Melvin J. Effinger, 77, of Evansville, passed away on Friday, June 6, 2025, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital. He was born on July 26, 1947, in Evansville, Indiana, to the late Herbert Henry Effinger and Marie Carolyn (Jung) Effinger.
Melvin was raised in Evansville and graduated from Rex Mundi High School. He was an avid deer hunter and enjoyed bowling until knee issues prevented him from continuing. Melvin deeply loved his family and believed life wasn’t complete without children around—he always welcomed a house full of them. He enjoyed participating in 4-H with his pigs and loved playing cards, especially rummy and clabber. He was a former member of Beacon Nazarene Church and a current member of United General Baptist Church.
Melvin is survived by his daughter, Carrie (David) Seib; stepdaughter, Angela Bender Smith; granddaughter he raised, Shawlon (Chris) Cronin; grandson he raised, Jeremy (Kristi) Pounds; grandchildren, Sydney (Josh) Gwaltney, Maisy Seib, Noah Pounds, Dustin Johnson, Dalton Collins, Sadi Collins, Devin Johnson, Gavin Pounds, Jade Pounds, Jackie Gwaltney, and Violet Pounds; sister, Ruth (Rich) Meldon; two brothers, Charlie (Joan) Effinger and Harold (Judy) Effinger; as well as several extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carling “Sue” Effinger; and daughter, Shannon Collins.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
