Little Michael gets a sister!
Five years later, Melinda Lee was born. Michael always told Melinda they had all the fun in Florida before she was born. 

Mick loved the outdoors. He often fished with his son Michael and Uncle Pete in the Colorado streams. 

Mick took little Michael fishing at the pond behind their house. They rode dune buggies in the stripper pits. They cared for horses, cows, sheep, chickens, rabbits, and dogs.

Melinda used to make her dog hold a pencil between its toes because she knew it would learn to write, and her dad would tell her he didn’t think that dog wanted to when he heard the dog yelping.

Mick loved riding horses and raising all varieties of chickens. He enjoyed wild plants, herbs, and gardening. 

Mickie's influence extended beyond his family when he became one of Michael's 4-H leaders.  He was the stern leader of the two. Once, at a Halloween party, Mick had told a boy wearing a clown costume several times to stay back from the fire. After rolling the boy on the ground to put the fire out from his costume, the other leader was visibly shaken, and Mick told the boy that’s why I told you to stay back and keep your leg out of the fire. 
Michael had many projects and showed sheep at the 4-H Fair with his dad.
Mick also helped with classroom parties. While helping with the Easter party at school, Mick and the teacher noticed, from the classroom window, that Michael and some other children were still hunting eggs on the playground when everyone came in. Michael knew that hadn’t all been found.

Mickie's impact on the boys in the 4-H Club was evident as they continued visiting him in adulthood, a testament to his lasting impression on their lives.
Michael and Melinda attribute their personal growth and development to their father, stating that he shaped them into the individuals they are today. 



When I think of my grandpa, I remember all the time he spent at the ball field or gym watching my brother and me play. I cherish the fishing and camping trips we took together, the birthday parties, and the holidays we celebrated. His sense of humor, modesty, and humble lifestyle left a lasting impression on me. I admire how he lived life on his own terms, embracing the freedom that came with it.

I am grateful to be part of the legacy he leaves behind. Thanks to him and my dad, I have a deep love of the outdoors and respect for nature. He passed along strong values, character, and work ethic. I will honor his memory by passing these lessons on to my own children.

Michael and I met while we were both in the Air Force. We both wanted a family and had 2 beautiful children. We shared a lot of wonderful times with our children. A lot of great camping trips and fun road trips. Some with his parents and sisters Debbie and Roxie.   He could make some awesome egg rolls and great meals on camping trips and road trips. Wonderful memories that last. 

Very sorry for the loss of your dad, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Although we only met Mike Sr. once I’ve spent enough time around his son, grandson, and great-grandson to know he was a great man.  The character of the men he’s left behind is a clear reflection of the man he was.

Mike was a true family and outdoorsman.  He was a constant supporting presence at his grandkids baseball games.  He was an avid fisher, and loved to dance. He was witty and kind.  His knowledge of plants and love of nature was admired.  Our sincere condolences to the family.

He loved his family. Proud of Mike, Rhonda, Justin and Logan  . Loved watching the boys baseball games. He recently said seeing  great grandson Archie was like getting a shot in the arm a powerful one. Also must have been thinking it was like looking at his own baby pictures.  Sincerest sympathy to all the family.  May you all find comfort as you reflect and share all your happy memories.
